Resistor is a passive component of electrical circuits which implements electrical resistance as a circuit element. Basically, it has two terminal & this is used to reduce current flow, to divide voltages, to bias active elements, to adjust signal levels and to terminate transmission lines.

Basically, There are two types of Resistor:
(1) Fixed Resistor:
Resistance of this resistor is fixed. Sometimes, It’s resistance only changes slightly with temperature, time or operating voltage of a circuit.
(2) Variable Resistor:
Resistance of this resistor is variable which is used to adjust circuit elements (such as Fan Regulator, Light Dimmer or a volume controller), or as sensing devices for light, force, heat, humidity, or chemical activity.

Symbol & types of various Resistor:

Fixed Value Resistor (IEC_Symbol)

Fixed Value Resistor (IEEE_Symbol)

Variable Resistor (Potentiometer)

Variable Resistor (Rheostat)

Light Dependent Resistor (LDR)

Are you a student, engineer, electrician or maker? Are you having trouble to read resistor color codes? Below Resistor Color Code Calculator will help you to determine the resistance value with the tolerance of axial resistors which are marked with color bands. Now, you just have to select the resistor band colors of the corresponding bands from the dropdown list of the below boxes. Then finally, Resistor Value (results) will be shown with resistance tolerance.
